Privacy Policy

Influent Media Limited (“Influent Media”, “we”, “our”, “us”) provides digital advertising monetisation and ad sales services across third-party websites and digital properties (the “Publishers”). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information processed via our advertising technology and services.

We take privacy seriously and operate in accordance with applicable data protection laws including the UK GDPR and EU GDPR (where applicable).

1) What this policy covers

This policy applies to:

  • information processed through our advertising technology when ads are delivered on publisher websites/apps; and
  • information processed via Influent Media-owned channels (e.g., our website) where relevant.

Publisher websites/apps will also have their own privacy and cookie policies and cookie consent tools. Those policies should be reviewed alongside this one.

2) Our approach to data

We use GDPR-compliant advertising technology to help ensure that advertising is delivered effectively and responsibly.

As a general principle, advertisers pay more for relevant advertising. This advertising revenue supports online publishers in providing free content and services to users.

3) Personal data we do not process

Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

Influent Media does not seek to collect or process directly identifying personal data through its  advertising technology.

For clarity, we do not process data such as:

  • name
  • postal address
  • phone number
  • email address
  • national insurance / social security number
  • credit card or payment information
  • any other information that directly identifies you

Special Category / Sensitive Data

We do not intentionally process or infer special category data such as:

  • racial or ethnic origin
  • political opinions
  • religious or philosophical beliefs
  • trade union membership
  • health or medical information
  • sex life or sexual orientation

4) Data we may process (pseudonymous data)

Influent Media may process limited data used for advertising delivery and measurement that does not directly identify a person (“Pseudonymous Data”). This can include:

  • date and time of an event
  • pseudonymous user ID (hashed)
  • IP address (truncated)
  • approximate location (geo/country level)
  • operating system
  • browser type
  • language settings
  • device type

Because IP addresses are truncated and user IDs are hashed, this information is treated as pseudonymous rather than directly identifying.

5) Cookies and similar technologies

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites function and can support advertising measurement and delivery.

Cookies and similar technologies (including pixels and tags) may be used to:

  • deliver and measure advertising
  • limit ad frequency (frequency capping)
  • prevent fraud and invalid traffic
  • generate reporting and performance insights

Cookies cannot access other data on your device, and they cannot by themselves directly identify you.

Managing cookies

You can typically manage cookies through:

  • a publisher website’s cookie consent banner/settings; and/or
  • your browser settings (block/delete cookies or get cookie alerts)

6) Legal basis for processing

Where Influent Media acts as a controller for any personal data, we may process limited data under one or more lawful bases under GDPR, including:

  • Legitimate Interests (e.g., fraud prevention, ensuring proper delivery of campaigns, reporting,
    network and platform security)
  • Compliance with legal obligations (where required)

Where required, we ensure legitimate interest processing is assessed through a balancing test to evaluate privacy impacts against the business need.

Note: cookie consent requirements may be handled by the Publisher (as website operator) via their consent management platform (CMP).

7) Information security

We take technical and organisational steps designed to protect information from unauthorised access, misuse, disclosure, alteration, loss or destruction.

Controls may include:

  • secure hosting environments
  • access restrictions to authorised personnel only
  • encryption and secure transfer methods where appropriate
  • internal policies and operational safeguards

No security system is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. However, we continuously work to maintain appropriate security standards.

8) Data retention

We retain pseudonymous data only for as long as required for the purposes described in this policy, including campaign delivery, reporting, auditing and fraud prevention, after which it is deleted or anonymised.

9) Information sharing

We do not sell personal data.

We may share limited pseudonymous data only where necessary for the delivery of advertising services, including:

  • Publishers (media vehicle operators)
  • advertising technology partners (e.g., ad servers, verification, measurement providers)
  • service providers acting on our instructions (e.g., hosting, analytics)

We may also disclose information:

  • where required by law, court order or regulator; or
  • to investigate, prevent or take action regarding fraud, security incidents, prohibited activity or threats to physical safety.

Where we engage suppliers, we take steps to ensure appropriate contractual protections are in place.

10) International transfers

Influent Media seeks to ensure that data is processed and stored appropriately and securely. Where data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we ensure suitable safeguards are used (e.g., adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses), where required.

11) Your rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights including:

  • access to personal data
  • correction
  • deletion
  • restriction or objection to processing
  • data portability (where applicable)
  • withdrawal of consent (where relevant)

To exercise your rights, please contact us using the details below.

12) Opt-out of online behavioural advertising

Influent Media supports industry self-regulatory initiatives for online behavioural advertising (OBA).

You may be able to opt out via:

  • your browser cookie settings; and/or
  • industry tools such as:
    • EDAA YourOnlineChoices (EU/UK)
    • All About Cookies opt-out guidance

Please note: opting out typically works via an opt-out cookie. If you delete cookies or change device/browser, you may need to repeat the opt-out.

13) Children

Influent Media’s services are not intended for children and are not directed at individuals under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

14) Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to highlight updates on our website.
